Juicy Support For Schools 27 February 2003Frucor Beverages, based in South Auckland has forged a relationship with three local primary schools aimed at jointly funding key projects. The three schools are Jean Batten Primary in Mangere, Puhinui Primary in Papatoetoe, and Dawson Primary in Otara. Frucor, which produces drinks like 'Just Juice', 'Fresh-up' and 'H2Go', has developed a community program targeted at children's education. The company has supported World Vision for over ten years but wanted to provide assistance closer to home. "Many of Frucor's 500 New Zealand staff live in South Auckland, " says Project Manager, Liz Lyons, "and the school partnership idea actually came from them". Staff at Frucor are responsible for co-ordinating the relationships. At Jean Batten Primary, Frucor is co-funding the school swimming program at the local Mangere Pools. "Children from year three onwards receive ten swimming lessons a year so Frucor's contribution helps cover bus transport and the cost of the swimming lessons, " says Principal, Gary Moss. "It's a fantastic initiative that we'd love other local companies to emulate," adds Gary. Frucor are also sponsoring a Fairplay Award at the three schools, recognising children who demonstrate respect and concern for others in the playground or in the classroom.
