| Q | What are Energy Drinks? |
A. Energy drinks are non-alcoholic beverages that are characterised by the addition of a number of energy enhancing ingredients. They are sometimes lightly carbonated and can include the addition of sugar, caffeine and/or guarana (a herbal source of caffeine).
A. An extract from the seeds of a climbing shrub native to the Amazon region. It is a natural source of caffeine and flavour components (tannins, essential oils). Guarana beverages outsell Coca Cola in Brazil where guarana has been used for centuries by the Amazonian Indians.
| Q | How much caffeine is in 'V'?
|
A. 80mg per 250ml – similar to that found in an average cup of coffee.
| Q | How many a day can people drink? |
A. A good benchmark is a cup of coffee. 'V' contains a similar level of caffeine to coffee so you can drink as many cans of 'V' as you are comfortable drinking cups of coffee. However, you will notice a recommended daily maximum stated on 'V' packaging, of two cans or 1.5 bottles per day.
| Q | Is 'Red Bull' more potent than 'V'? |
A. Both have the same level of caffeine. The combination of guarana and caffeine ingredients in 'V' gives it a total of 80mg of caffeine per 250mls - exactly the same as 'Red Bull'.
| Q | Can I drink 'V' if I'm a diabetic? |
A. The advice given by health professionals for people with diabetes is to choose products with less than 10 grams of sugar per 100 mls. Because 'V' contains some added sugar (11.2g per 100ml), restrict consumption to half a can or bottle of 'V' at a time as it can still elevate blood sugar levels. Sugar free or diet drinks are preferable if you're diabetic.
A. Caffeine is one of the most widely researched foodstuffs and all the evidence supports the position that caffeine is safe at normal consumption levels. Most of the caffeine consumed derives from tea and coffee.
